Welcome back to TurnAround Thursday’s 5-Week STRONG FINISH CHALLENGE, where we are all about finding the little hacks and tweaks that can make a big difference in our classrooms and homes.

It’s Week 4, and we’re diving into the third of three Energy Hacks and today’s is …

Relabeling™ Increases IQ, EQ, and SQ

Are you ready to finish the school year on a high note and win back some precious time?

If so, then I’ve got a kick-butt, game-changing strategy for you. I call it Relabeling, and let me tell you, it’s a serious Energy Hack that can transform the way you and your students or children approach learning and growth.

When I first came up with the concept of Relabeling for my class in my third year of teaching, I was blown away by the results.

I Tried Relabeling in My Classroom
and It Completely Transformed the Learning Environment – Here’s How

I decided to rename the class from the biggest baddest to the biggest best, and that simple act set off a chain reaction of positive change. But it wasn’t just about slapping a new label on the class and calling it a day. I took it a step further and started looking at the labels that other teachers had given the students.

One student in particular, who was physically and emotionally disabled, stood out to me. I knew there was so much more to him than than his “crazy” label implied. So, I started using new labels for him in my mind’s eye – Welcome, Wanted, Quirky. And you know what? He started to change. The energy in the classroom shifted, and he went from acting out to feeling safe and thriving. It was truly a miraculous transformation.

Now, I know what you might be thinking – relabeling sounds like a fluffy, touchy-feely concept. But let me assure you, it’s backed by solid evidence and has the power to rewire beliefs and expectations. It’s not just about changing labels for the sake of it. It’s about creating a safe space, building trust, and then introducing this powerful tool. I’ve seen it work wonders with kids, teachers, and entire classrooms.

So, if you’re ready to see some serious change and accelerate IQ, EQ, and SQ, it’s time to get on board with the relabeling game. It’s not just some random idea, it can change the trajectory of a person’s life.

Here’s your TurnAround:  you already know what it is.  That’s right.  Relabel!

Now, I know what you’re thinking – how do I start relabeling? Well, it’s all about creating a safe space, building trust, and then introducing this powerful tool. But once you do, get ready to see some serious change.

First, I want you to write down the names of each of the 1-3 students you’ve been working on to reach and teach.

Second, I want you to write down their existing labels on the left hand side of the paper.

Third, on the right hand side, relabel them.

How?  Don’t over think this.  Either write down the exact opposite of how they are currently behaving OR accept them exactly the way they are, right here, right now.

Hold your new labels in mind as you go about your day, every time you see them, think of their new labels and notice your energy change and their defensiveness toward you dissolve.

I’ve seen it transform kids, parents, teachers, and even entire classrooms. It’s about accelerating IQ, EQ and SQ, and creating an environment where everyone can thrive. So, if you’re ready to shake things up and see some serious change, it’s time to get on board with the relabeling game. Trust me, it’s a game-changer. And I’ve got the stories to prove it.

The bottom line is this – relabeling is a practical solution that offers reliable outcomes. It’s a step-by-step approach that maintains harmony and can win back time by accelerating learning.

So, let’s make it happen. Let’s start relabeling and watch the magic unfold.
