The Science-Backed Strategy For Boosting Student Performance

Welcome back to TurnAround Thursday’s 5-Week STRONG START CHALLENGE, where we are all about finding the little hacks and tweaks that can make a big difference in our classrooms and homes.

It’s Week 2, and we’re diving into the first of three Energy Hacks and today’s is …

Change Your Vibe, See Your Students Thrive:
the Energetics of Behavior

As an educator, I understand the struggle of feeling like some students are slipping through the cracks. That’s why I’m excited to share with you the first of three Energy Hacks that have completely transformed my classroom and the way I approach teaching.

This week’s focus is on the science of Quantum InterConnectedness! I’m not playing here. It’s real and it’s happening all day every day whether you mean for it to be or not!

You may be feeling skeptical about the impact of changing your vibe on academic performance, and that’s completely understandable.

However, after teaching countless others how to implement this simple hack, I’ve seen educational leaders and parents be able to a make a world of difference – measurable results – in their classrooms and homes.

When I first came up with this, I had no idea how big the impact of changing my vibe would be on academic performance.

Instead of trying to stop bad behavior with force, threats, or public shaming, changing my vibe and fostering a non-judgmental atmosphere allowed my students to co-regulate, self-regulate, and ultimately thrive.

Reflecting on my own experiences as my parent’s problem child, I realized that the teachers who made a difference in my life didn’t talk down to me or treat me differently. There was no invisible barrier between us, and their attitude, vibes, and tone made all the difference. This is the power of changing your vibe.

To support this Energy Hack, I found a study by Robert Rosenthal in 1963, which revealed that students’ performance aligned with their teachers’ expectations. High expectations led to increased achievement, while low expectations resulted in poor performance. This study reminded me of the profound impact our energy and vibes as educators can have on our students’ success.

I encourage you to reflect on your vibe and energy in the classroom.

Are you fostering a supportive and non-judgmental atmosphere, or inadvertently contributing to negative expectations?

By taking time (just 30 Seconds more times than not) to change your vibe and approach, you can set the tone for a safe, welcoming, and encouraging learning environment where all students can thrive.

Changing your vibe isn’t just about positivity; it’s about creating a synergistic environment where every student feels wanted, supported, and capable of success.

Watch this video to:

1. Discover the surprising impact of changing your energy and vibe on student behavior and academic performance.

2. Uncover the powerful connection between teachers’ expectations and student achievement, as revealed in a groundbreaking study.

3. Learn how to set the tone for a safe, welcoming, and encouraging learning environment where all students can thrive without resistance or disinterest.

After watching this second video your 30-Second TurnAround is to …

First: bring back to mind the 1-3 students or adults you are having the most problem with that you started focusing in on last week.

Second: this time, bring to mind your attitude, vibe and tone you’ve been having about them.

Third:  now change it!

How do you do that?  Easy.  Simply put yourself in their shoes and wonder for just 30 seconds, “what” could be going on for them that … (fill in the blank!)

With that said, notice the shift in your energy.

Here’s to turning things around in just 30 seconds!
